Shirley has extensive experience in litigation for public and private sector clients in Property and Commercial Litigation matters including actions under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, access and boundary disputes and servitude disputes. She has appeared extensively in Sheriff Courts throughout Scotland, before Tribunals, Council Committees and Boards and has substantial Court of Session experience.
Shirley provides specialist advice on litigation for public and private sector clients, in Property and Commercial Litigation matters focusing particularly on property, housing, landlord and tenant law and commercial issues. She has a wealth of experience in the property and housing sectors, from the law of repairs and anti-social behaviour, to servitude, access and title disputes, lease disputes including dilapidations, irritancy, declarator and interdict actions, as well as unauthorised occupiers of land, actions for eviction, contractual disputes, judicial reviews, land compensation claims and damages claims. Shirley frequently acts for housing associations and local authorities as well as a range of private and commercial clients.
Highly effective at dealing with contentious issues, Shirley often helps and advises clients in the drafting of policies, procedures and agreements. She also uses her exceptional knowledge to deliver bespoke client training and is frequently invited to speak at conferences or to contribute to major international housing publications.
Recognised as a leader in her field for social housing by legal directory Chambers & Partners, Shirley is also recommended in the Legal 500 in this area. Shirley also sits as a Legal Member in the First-Tier Tribunal for Scotland (Housing and Property Chamber). This widely acknowledged expertise and commitment to housing is further consolidated through her position on the board of the East Lothian Housing Association – a post she’s held for 16 years.
