Working with us

Benefits

Wellbeing is at the core of many of our initiatives and we provide a community where our colleagues feel both accepted and valued. We are proud of how we demonstrate care and compassion towards colleagues, clients and the local communities. We understand the importance of helping our colleagues to feel happy and fulfilled given the time we spend together with our colleagues at work.

We work hard to achieve goals but are always conscious of the importance of employee wellbeing. We all try to look after one another while at work. Our people genuinely care about each other and we are extremely proud of this.

If you join our team, here are some of the ways that we’ll look after you:

  • Excellent salary, salary sacrifice pension and flexible life assurance provisions
  • Twenty-five days annual leave and holiday trading plus an additional day to use annually to do something just for you
  • Annual employee bonus scheme and individual bonus awards for exceptional performance
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Three working days per year dedicated to the CSR activity of your choice
  • Various social events, some with your own team and others set up by our social committee
  • Trained mental health champions at each of our offices/on-site
  • A range of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion initiative such as Carers group to offer you support, Mental Health Awareness week, events, etc.
  • Access to wellbeing classes and workshops throughout the year

Our wellbeing and benefits demonstrate the importance we place on our people and their welfare.

Training and development

We believe that our people are our greatest asset, and we understand the importance of developing each of our staff. So, it’s important for us to invest in professional and personal development to help everyone to succeed.

We take pride in providing you with exceptional training opportunities that will develop your expertise. Our goal is to enable you to progress professionally and to deliver the excellent service that our clients expect.

Your personal and professional development

We offer continuous professional development (CPD) – not just in your area of expertise but in soft skills too. We run more than 500 internal training sessions every year – on average, our staff attend around 14 sessions each annually. We also provide training on demand through our customised Learning Management System.

This dedicated learning and development programme covers legal areas of interest for our solicitors, as well as IT skills, developing your managerial skills, business development and building your own personal brand. We also run an internal mentoring scheme that’s open to all of our colleagues.

For trainees, we are authorised by the Law Society of Scotland to deliver internal Trainee CPD and Ethics CPD programmes. This enables our trainees to ask questions in a supportive setting and helps to provide them with the tools they need to develop into skilled solicitors.

For colleagues in non-legal roles, we have varied training opportunities and discuss learning needs to support them. For example, we offer modern apprenticeships for our administrators, management training for our support team colleagues and professional memberships within our finance, HR and marketing teams.

We take pride in ensuring that all our people are fulfilled in their roles, and this includes continued learning for all of our teams.

Entrepreneurial leadership

Further to the training programmes described above, we have launched an entrepreneurial leadership programme designed to help ambitious and talented individuals achieve their potential through understanding and developing their strengths.

Our aim with this is to equip leaders throughout our firm to act creatively, collaboratively and with determination. The programme acknowledges that we are all different and encourages our people to find the best way to thrive as individuals, and to help us to drive our business forward.

Benefits – understanding your needs and providing flexibility

We appreciate the importance of making time to live and enjoy life. We offer benefits to help you do just that.

  • Hybrid working with flexibility around office/homeworking
  • Agile working to help work around individual situations where some flexibility in hours is helpful
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity leave
  • Twenty-five days annual leave, eight public holidays and holiday trading
  • Additional day annually to take and spend as you wish
  • Dedicated three days per annum for CSR volunteering, either to support our charity of the year or to do something for a cause close to your heart

Benefits – your health and wellbeing

Your overall wellbeing is holistic and doesn’t strictly depend on either your work or your home life, it’s an amalgamation of all the stimuli around you at any time. To help ensure that your wellbeing needs are met, we offer:

  • Pension salary sacrifice
  • Life assurance
  • Firm-funded Health Cashback plan
  • Annual flu vaccinations
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Interest free travel loans
  • Employee assistance programme
  • There are also certified Mental Health Champions across all of our offices

Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee also runs wellbeing initiatives for colleagues throughout the year including mindfulness sessions, yoga and pilates classes, social events and educational events to help us all continue to increase our awareness.

Social events and fun

Our social committee organises events throughout the year from summer barbecues and Christmas parties to quarterly social evenings. We also run book clubs, sports teams, coffee catch ups, and quizzes.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

We understand how important it is for all of our colleagues to feel included and valued, and to receive credit for their individual merits. Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee meets regularly to discuss initiatives designed to promote, encourage and accommodate equality, diversity and inclusion at Anderson Strathern.

Some of our recent activities have included creating a carers’ group, raising awareness and funds during Pride Month, Black History Month and Purple Friday, among other initiatives. We also support external campaigns and causes, such as the Women in Law Project, Social Bite and the Mock Court Project, which helps to encourage young people from a range of backgrounds to embark on a career in law. We also run coffee mornings for cancer support charities and hold regular workshops to help all of our people gain awareness of how and why we support these projects.

All of our offices are fully accessible and, where further provisions are needed, we’ll always make an effort to accommodate.

Your voice

We’re committed to making sure all of our colleagues have the opportunity to give feedback in ways that suit them, and on a regular basis.  We have a range of committees including our Staff Forum, Social Committee, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, CSR Committee, Innovation Committee and Net Zero Working Group (more on our net zero mission here). Everyone is welcome to join.

"The individuals of the practice take a positive and personable approach. They engage with us fully in matters concerning our case thoroughly and patiently."
