2018 minimum wage increase

On 1 April 2018 the minimum wages to which workers and employees are entitled increased.

The increased hourly rates are as follows:

  • Aged 25 and over – increased National Living Wage rate £7.83
  • Aged 21-24 – increased National Minimum Wage rate £7.38
  • Aged 18-20 – increased National Minimum Wage rate £5.90
  • Ages under 18 – increased National Minimum Wage rate £4.20
  • Apprentice – increased National Minimum Wage rate £3.70

The penalties for failing to comply remain the same: £20,000 per worker, criminal sanctions, recovery of the underpayment, and potential reputational damage.
