Our first Risk and Compliance Director, Coral Bain.

Anderson Strathern has hired Coral Bain as its first Risk and Compliance Director.  Bain, a former Head of Professional Practice at The Law Society of Scotland, brings expertise in governance, professional regulation, GDPR and strategic compliance.

Bain, a University of Edinburgh law graduate who has worked for a series of international law firms including Pinsent Masons and Maclay, Murray & Spens, is also currently a council member with Her Majesty’s Writers of the Signet, a Vice Chair to the Board of Sports Scotland, an appointment made by Scottish Ministers in 2014, and a Trustee and council member of The General Teaching Council.  Bain has also held non-executive roles including as Legal Director with the British Association of Snowsports and as Company Secretary to the Scottish Arbitration Centre.

At Anderson Strathern, Coral will focus on providing insight, support and practical advice to the firm’s client base across the public, commercial, private client and social enterprise sectors.  Bain is also tasked with further strengthening the firm’s Risk and Compliance unit, which is set to be relaunched later this year.

Coral Bain, Anderson Strathern’s Risk and Compliance Director, said: “Anderson Strathern is a great fit for me and a real strength of the firm is that it recognises that the lawyers of tomorrow are skilled in business and personal qualifications beyond the law itself.  The firm also has a commitment to gender balance in the senior team and that was a big attraction for me.  We have an amazing client list and we are firmly focused on providing the best advice around in what can quite often be complex areas to navigate.”

Murray McCall, Anderson Strathern’s Managing Partner, said: “Coral is an established and trusted adviser and leader and we are excited to have her on board to drive our risk and compliance function at Anderson Strathern.  Additionally, Coral’s extracurricular activities and commitment to coaching and mentoring illustrate what an exceptional individual she is and Coral is exactly the type of person we want to have at the forefront of our team here.”

In December, Anderson Strathern reported increased turnover to £22.8 million for the year to 31st August 2018 [2017: £21.5M] while reporting profits up by 10 per cent.
