Celebrating 20 years as an Investor in People

We believe in investing in our people, they are our best assets and we’re pleased to be celebrating 20 years as an Investors in People (IIP) accredited firm.  

Our journey started with Investors in People when we were first awarded accreditation in 1998. We became the first law firm in Scotland to achieve a Gold Investors in People in 2011, an Investors in Young People accreditation by 2015 and our most recent accreditation is a Gold Investor in Young People in 2016.

We are proud to retain both Gold Investor in People and Gold Investor in Young People and this puts us in the top 12% of all IIP accredited organisations. We were also recently awarded Employer of the Year at the 2016 Scottish Legal Awards and we believe that Anderson Strathern is truly the place to be for people with innovative ideas and the drive to succeed.

What is Investors in People

Founded in 1991, Investors in People is a not-for-profit community interest company. They help thousands of organisations lead, support and manage people well for sustained results. It’s about developing a positive culture with motivational leaders and inspired employees. The accreditations also show that an organisation has created an environment of openness and trust and engage with colleagues in ways which are transparent and empowering.  

Why is this important to us?

Investors in People helps us to attract and retain the best staff. It benchmarks us against a respected standard in how we lead and manage.  Our accreditations are also an external validation of our business practices. It also demonstrates to our clients that we value and invest in our people to enable them to provide the best client service.

What does Investors in People mean to our people?

Our IIP reviews have helped shape and endorse the way in which we grow our people, including providing a Personal Development Framework, Skills Profiles and Performance Development Reviews for you.

In the spirit of creating a working environment where people feel valued, the programme has led to a fully-fledged flexi time system. We were the first Scottish law firm to embrace flexible working and we are proud to continue to support this for our staff.

Our Continuous Professional Development, Management Development, TCPD, Business Development and IT Training programmes have all featured in upskilling and developing us all, an important part of investing in people and a way in which all of us can continue to gain the skills you require to grow within their roles at the firm.

In 2008 we set up our Staff Forum, and for the first time had a representative staff body, something Investors in People recommended as a great way to hear and act on the views of our people.

Going for Platinum

Our plan is to keep working to retain both accreditations and we hope to be able to apply for the relatively new level of Platinum Investor in People in the future. Thanks to the continued work and dedication of our people, we are able to aim for both.
