Our expertise across a wide range of legal sectors has been highlighted with a series of rankings in the newly released Chambers & Partners legal directory results.
Chambers undertakes independent research about law firms, solicitors and the legal marketplace to assess technical legal ability, client service, commercial vision & business understanding, diligence, value for money and depth of team.
Six of our specialist practice areas are in the ‘top tier rankings’ in Scotland: Agriculture & Rural Affairs, Clinical Negligence, Education: Institutions, Healthcare, Parliamentary & Public Affairs and Professional Discipline. With two of our more recent practice areas, Transport and Media & Entertainment going straight into Chambers ranked at band two.
Meanwhile, six of our partners are ranked in band one for their specialist areas as ‘leading individuals’, four of our solicitors are in the ‘Star Associate’ category and a further two are ‘Associates to Watch’.
Our leading individuals are Fiona Killen, Head of the Parliamentary and Public Law Unit; John Mitchell, who leads the Agriculture & Estates team, Alun Thomas, who heads the Education team, Neil Amner one of Scotland’s leading Transport, Environmental and Parliamentary lawyers, Simon Brown who heads up our Corporate Group and Catriona Watt, who leads on Healthcare & Public and Regulatory. Catriona’s team won Litigation Team of the Year at the Scottish Legal Awards in March 2018.
Robert Carr has also been recognised in the rankings this year as ‘Senior Statesperson’, a Solicitor Advocate accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in both Medical Negligence and Personal Injury law. Robert has previously won ‘Specialist of the Year’ at the Scottish Legal Awards. And Gillian Anderson who leads our Finance Sector Group receives ‘Recognised Practitioner’ status for Banking & Finance.
‘Star Associates’ at the firm include Shirley Evans, Senior Associate for Property Disputes, Housing and Landlord & Tennant, Victoria Simpson Head of Charities and Robbie Wilson Head of Medical Negligence and Sarah Phillips a Senior Associate in our Insurance Litigation and Health and Safety team.
In the ‘Associates to watch’ category are Gary Burton Senior Associate for Personal Injury, Professional Regulation and Adults with Incapacity and Dominic Scullion, a Solicitor Advocate & Senior Associate in our Advocacy & Legal Opinions Unit. Dominic was the Rising Star of the Year at the Scottish Legal Awards in 2017.
Our ‘Recognised Practitioners this year are Andrew Brown Partner for Employment, Industrial Relations and HR and Jonathan Guy Solicitor Advocate & Partner for Commercial Disputes, Health & Saftey and Licensing.
