Fiona heads our Parliamentary and Public Law Unit. She is an expert in public law, human rights, statutory appeals, judicial reviews, parliamentary procedures, statutory interpretation, legislative drafting, public sector governance and education law. She also has real strength and depth in freedom of information and data protection matters. Fiona is rated as a ‘leading individual’ in Parliamentary and Public Affairs and Administrative and Public Law by the legal directories Chambers & Partners and the Legal 500. Fiona is also a member of our Brexit group.
Fiona works closely with major clients such as the Scottish Information Commissioner, Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, Scottish Public Services Ombudsman, Scottish Road Works Commissioner and Scottish Government. She has acted in cases in the Court of Session and UK Supreme Court, dealing with statutory appeals and judicial reviews. Providing advice on statutory interpretation, Fiona acts for promoters of private legislation and also drafts legislation and governance instruments for numerous clients. These include educational institutions, chartered and professional bodies.
Fiona’s exceptional and prestigious track record includes working in the Scottish Parliament, UK Parliament and US Senate. She is currently a member of the Law Society’s Constitutional Law Sub-Committee and its Freedom of Information and Data Protection Specialist Accreditation Committee.
