Liam is a Senior Solicitor in the Contentious Construction team and is based in our Glasgow office. As a construction litigator, Liam works with his colleagues to provide legal advice and representation to clients who are involved in construction and/or engineering disputes. Liam regularly advises clients on challenges that arise in infrastructure projects; the interpretation and enforcement of obligations contained in construction contracts; and the regulatory and common law duties that bind those involved in construction and engineering works, such as architects and structural engineers. Liam appears in the Sheriff Courts throughout Scotland and is ably experienced in Court of Session litigation. He regularly liaises with Counsel and technical experts on complex disputes. Liam enjoys meeting a wide variety of individuals, learning about their projects, and helping them to find commercially pragmatic solutions to disputes so that those projects can remain on track and on budget.
Liam has had an enthusiastic interest in litigation since commencing his law degree at Strathclyde University in 2014, at which time he became a Student Advisor at Strathclyde’s student-led Law Clinic. Throughout his studies, he provided legal advice and representation to individuals in the Glasgow area on a voluntary basis. Liam was awarded the Head of Law School’s prize upon graduation in 2018 and latterly worked within Strathclyde Law School as a tutor on the international private law, commercial law, EU law, and evidence modules.
Liam was born in Vancouver in Canada and grew up in the damp climate of the Pacific Northwest. Having moved to his family’s native Scotland as a child, he feels right at home! Outside of work, Liam is an avid film lover, with a particular interest in the science fiction and horror genres and enjoys adding to his ever-expanding collection of titles. His top three directors are David Lynch, John Carpenter, and David Cronenberg.
