Sarah is a partner in Anderson Strathern’s Dispute Resolution department and leads our the Public Sector Litigation team.
Sarah is an enthusiastic specialist defender litigator with over 25 years’ experience and a can-do attitude. She is recognised as a Leading individual (band 4) in Chambers UK , personal injury, mainly defender and recommended in the Legal 500. For the past 20 years Sarah has specialised in defender liability insurance work and advised a number of public bodies (specifically the UK and Scottish Governments and the Scottish Prison Service), major insurers and liability adjusters in relation to a broad range of issues including employer’s liability, public liability, indemnity issues, occupational disease, property damage and all aspects of motor claims (personal injury, credit hire, fraud). Sarah has extensive experience in the detailed preparation, analysis, and presentation of cases (both high and low value) in the Court of Session, Sheriff Court, General Teaching Council and before the Compensation Recovery Appeals Tribunal.
For the past 13 years, Sarah has been at the forefront of representation of mandatory and discretionary Fatal Accident Inquiries for the UK and Scottish Government, specifically the Scottish Prison Service, in relation to deaths in custody. Sarah has been the principal lead solicitor in the most high profile, politically sensitive Fatal Accident Inquiries. Key to Sarah’s successful representation is developing a comprehensive strategy at the outset, including full and transparent engagement, that takes clients through the Inquiry process and gets them to where they need to be, but also recognising where it is appropriate to make concessions, so lessons can be learned.
