Tom is a transport law specialist and deals with all aspects of road operator licencing within our Transport Department. He joined Anderson Strathern on the firm’s merger Jeffrey Aitken in April 2016. Tom continues to work exclusively on behalf of road haulage operators in either the haulage or public service sector, and has built up a wealth of experience at Public Inquiries before the Traffic Commissioner. In addition he has continued to deal with defending road traffic prosecutions at all levels of the courts in Scotland.

Tom is regularly instructed by LGV and PSV drivers, and their employers, where they face criminal charges in a wide range of matters from general road traffic cases, to, for example, more complex tachograph and construction and ‘use’ cases on a ‘direct’ or ‘causing and permitting’ basis. A detailed and practical knowledge of the transport industry has been of benefit to all of his clients and their businesses when faced with a criminal charge of whatever description.

Tom has often been asked to advise clients who are subject to DVSA and police investigations finding as he does that early and experienced advice at an initial stage assists with outcomes if and when regulatory action is taken by the Traffic Commissioner or a criminal case is raised.

Beyond the world of work Tom enjoys playing music and with a number of bands he is involved in and still appears as the drummer at venues in Glasgow and elsewhere.

Tom enjoys rugby and these days his involvement is restricted to cheering on his elder son who plays with a youth team for a club on the south side of Glasgow.
