Read MoreTom is an experienced litigator, having specialised in dispute resolution throughout his career. He is a Solicitor Advocate and appears regularly in courts and tribunals. During his 28 years as a solicitor in private practice he has advised clients on a wide range of commercial, financial, property, licensing and insolvency related disputes. He has also represented a number of clients in high value and legally significant disputes in the Court of Session and Sheriff Court.
Advising banks and other financial services clients has been a particular focus for Tom – he has considerable expertise in retail and commercial lending disputes, having acted for banks and other lenders dealing with the enforcement of securities and contractual claims, as well as advising and representing such clients in mis-selling claims. He is a member of the Scottish Law Commission’s Advisory Group on its current project dealing with the reform of the law of heritable securities.
Tom has an interest and expertise in alternative dispute resolution with a particular emphasis on arbitration. He has acted as an arbitrator on property related disputes. He also has considerable experience of dealing with claims in the First-tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal of the Housing and Property Chamber.
