Paralegal/Legal PA - Land Resources

A vacancy has arisen for a Paralegal/Legal Executive in the Rural Land and Business Team.

 

The role

Based in Edinburgh the candidate will be expected to undertake a range of work within the team which covers supporting our clients on a variety of rural property transactions including working as part of the Crown Estate Scotland team on the rural, coastal, aquaculture and mines royal portfolios.  We also work with a range of other public and private sector clients on a range of matters including estate reorganisation, voluntary registration projects, leasing (including residential, agricultural, telecommunications and crofting), sales/purchases of estates, forestry and farms, country houses, plots and cottages together with security work.  The role will include working on transactions independently (with appropriate supervision) from inception to completion.

You will be responsible for

  • Prioritising tasks to fit with given timescales/deadlines
  • Managing a busy caseload of transactions, including liaising with the client to obtain instructions;
  • Drafting and negotiating documents such as offers, leases, variations, dispositions, and other ancillary lease documentation;
  • Assisting with sales and purchases, including plot sales and deeds of servitude;
  • Reviewing and reporting on titles and dealing with ad hoc title queries from solicitors and clients;
  • Managing completion and post-completion registrations, forms, filing and client signing / reporting requirements;
  • Providing regular updates to clients on the progress of a matter;
  • Providing ad hoc support on our projects;
  • Assisting with file management procedures, including opening, closing, letters of engagement, managing iManage;
  • Working with data rooms and our online case management systems, including HighQ;
  • Preparing fee notes using Aderant system and/or liaison with the firm’s Fee Charging Department relative to production of more complex fee notes; and
  • Other legal/administrative work as required by the team.

What you will need to succeed

  • Have a competent knowledge of legal practice
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint
  • Possess a good knowledge of document management
  • Have fast and accurate typing with good attention to detail
  • Be a team worker who can also work using your own initiative
  • Be adaptable and flexible in approach, have a positive attitude and work with enthusiasm and commitment to the team, department and Anderson Strathern
  • While previous Paralegal experience would be beneficial, the candidate would be expected to obtain a formal paralegal qualification.
